Spiffy’s Car Care Tips: Know When You Need to Get Your Brakes Inspected
Of ALL the systems, parts and pieces that make up your car’s safety list…it is your brakes that should be right there at the top. Routine brake inspections are essential to safe driving and maintaining your vehicle. And, knowing the signs, and sounds, that your brakes need attention is a must.
Here’s a list of 7 signs that it’s probably time to take your brakes for a checkup:
- Noise: You are hearing screeching, grinding or clicking noises when applying the brakes.
- Pulling: You are feeling your vehicle pull to one side while braking.
- Low Pedal: Your brake pedal nearly touches the floor before engaging.
- Hard Pedal: You must apply extreme pressure to the pedal before brakes engage.
- Grabbing: Your brakes grab at the slightest touch to the pedal.
- Vibration: You feel your brake pedal vibrate or pulse, even under normal braking conditions.
- Light: And, of course…you see your brake light is illuminated on your vehicle’s dashboard.
Brakes are a normal wear item on any vehicle and they will eventually need to be replaced. Factors that can affect brake wear include driving habits, operating conditions, vehicle type and the quality of the brake lining material.
If you have noticed one or more of the above we encourage you to take your car to a brake service expert ASAP! And, of course you are more than welcome to ask a technician at Spiffy’s next time you come in for an Oil Change or Car Wash!
