Spiffy’s Car Wash FAQ’s: How Much Water Is Used at a Car Wash?
The central Alabama drought is a very, very serious issue. It is critical that everyone that lives in central Alabama pay attention to water usage. However, there is a big difference in using water that cannot be reclaimed, such as watering lawns or DIY car washes, and water usage that can be reclaimed, such as flushing toilets or professional car washes.
Many newer car wash facilities utilize a modernized system for water that enable the car wash to re-use water many times over. This allows the car wash to only use fresh water when absolutely necessary (such as a final rinse) to ensure a clean, dry car. In other words, while many gallons of water are being used during the course of an average car wash, only 9 to 15 gallons of fresh water is introduced during any given wash cycle. That is a drastic reduction in water usage over home washing where up to 140 gallons may be used.
It is important to care for your car even during times of drought. Fortunately an alternative exists that saves significant amounts of water, and is also better for your vehicle, faster and even cheaper than washing at home.
